AN EVALUATION OF THE ENHANCED BENEFITS ASSOCIATED WITH LIQUID ANTIPSYCHOTICS: A SURVEY OF VARIOUS ANTIPSYCHOTIC TREATMENTS

ABSTRACT

Antipsychotic medications serve as the main approach in managing schizophrenia and various other psychotic disorders. They are also prescribed for bipolar disorder and as a supplementary treatment for major depressive disorder. The effectiveness of pharmacotherapy is contingent upon the appropriate selection of antipsychotic agents and the patient's adherence to the prescribed regimen. The antipsychotics currently available exhibit unique pharmacological characteristics. The choice of antipsychotic treatment is influenced by multiple factors, including previous treatment responses or adverse effects, the effectiveness and safety of the drug, personal patient attributes, and the preferences of the patient concerning the administration method. Instances of non-response or the emergence of side effects maynecessitate a change in antipsychotic medications; it is noted that approximately 30-50% of outpatients may switch from one atypical antipsychotic to another within a year.
