CLASSICAL RELOOK OF BABULA (ACACIA ARABICA WILLD.) FROM DIFFERENT NIGHANTUS: A REVIEW STUDY

ABSTRACT Background: Babula (Acacia arabica Willd.) is a small tree, containing small spikes and it belongs to the Mimosaceae family. Traditionally Babula (Acacia arabica Willd.) is used as a medicine for various disease condition in India. Materials and Methods: All the available Ayurvedic Nighantus were referred for gathering of the data regarding Babula (Acacia arabica Willd.). The e-Nighantu developed by National Institute of India Medical Heritage (NIMH), Hyderabad, New Delhi was also referred for this review. Observation & Result: Referring various Nighantus in detail gives vital information about the Synonyms, Rasapanchaka, Karma (Action) and Rogaghnata (Indication) of Babula (Acacia arabica Willd.). Discussion: Various information of Babula (Acacia arabica Willd.) is gathered from 23 different Nighantus. Till date no detailed review analysis from Ayurvedic literatures has been carried out on Babula (Acacia arabica Willd.). Conclusion: From this review study, information regarding synonyms, properties and actions which may help in easy identification of drug has been gathered.
