ABSTRACT

Curcumin, a natural yellow phenolic compound, is present in manykinds of herbs, particularly in Curcuma longa Linn. (turmeric). Many types of herbs, especially Curcuma longa Linn. (turmeric), contain curcumin, a naturally occurring yellow phenolic component. It is a naturally occurring antioxidant that has demonstrated a wide range of pharmacological properties in preclinical and clinical research, including anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, anti-cancer, and anti-Alzheimer effects. In addition, curcumin suppresses thrombosis and guards against myocardial infarction. It also has hepatoprotective, nephroprotective, cardioprotective, neuroprotective, hypoglycaemic, antirheumatic, and antidiabetic properties. Although curcumin has shown promise as an anticancer drug, it‘s extremely poor aqueous solubility limits its potential as a medicinal agent. As a result, numerous methods have been created and used to get around this restriction. In this review, we provide an overview of recent research on the design and development of curcumin delivery systems at thenanoscale, including conjugates, peptide carriers, cyclodextrins, solid dispersions, lipid nanoparticles, emulsions, liposomes, polymeric nanoparticles, and micelles. Nanotechnologyis a newly emerging field with versatile applications in cosmetics, drug delivery, packaging offood ingredients, and many other applications in the field of medical science. Thebiosynthesis of nanoparticles is fac ing some serious challenges. Nanoparticles are applied asthe best antioxidants and antimicrobial agents for accelerating reactions
