ETHNO-PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTIVITIES OF AEGLE MARMELOS (L.) CORR.: A REVIEW

ABSTRACT Currently, in ongoing investigations across the globe, the study of plants is major on Aegle marmelos (L.) Corr. or what is commonly known as wood apple tree, a member of the Rutaceae family. This well-known medicinal plant is renowned for being a panacea to various ailments. Use of the waste part of A. marmelos in preparation of remedies, owing to its health benefits which include antimicrobial, antidepressant, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, anticonvulsant, antifungal, antifertility, anxiolytic, and radioprotective activity, just to mention a few among many others. Thus, this review sought to consolidate knowledgeable scientific literature on the multiplicity of different uses of Aegle marmelos in traditional medicine over multicultural purposes.
