Hiral Sutariya*, Dilip Jani and Dharmendra Jani
ABSTRACT Background: Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia), also known as Giloy or Amrita, is a climbing shrub from the Menispermaceae family, valued in Ayurveda for its broad therapeutic properties. It is traditionally used to enhance immunity, treat fever, inflammation, infections, and boost vitality. Its effectiveness in traditional medicine has sparked growing scientific interest in confirming its therapeutic benefits. Materials and Methods: For the present study, Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia (Willd.) Miers.) has been selected as herbal drug. A thorough study has been carried out of Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia (Willd.) Miers.) including its macroscopical, microscopical and preliminary phytochemical studies. Observation & Result: The Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia (Willd.) stem is dark brown in colour and papery and measures up to 5-6 cms in length with warty surface. In the transverse section and the lateral section Cork, Cortex, Pericycle,Secretory Cells, Xylem Vessel, Phloem Vessel, Cambium, Vascular Bundles, Pith, Starch grains, Prismatic Crystal Fibre, etc. were observed. In powder microscopy, Vessels, Prismatic Crystal, Starch grains, Tracheids, Fibre elements, etc. were found. In Preliminary Phytochemical screening, it showed the presence of alkaloid, flavonoid, steroid, saponin, and tannin. Conclusion: The structures which are observed here help in correct identification of Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia (Willd.) stem.
