KALPAABHIDHANA- OVERVIEW OF MALLAHARA KALPANA
*Dr. Bishnupriya Mohanty, Sagar Suhas Arolkar and Prof (Dr.) Sangram Keshari Das
ABSTRACT Mallahara Kalpana belongs to the category of Bahya Kalpana in Ayurveda. It refers to the preparation of ointments, where the base is typically either Ghrita (clarified butter) or SikthaTaila (a mixture of beeswax and oil). Depending on the intended application, additional ingredients such as minerals, herbs, or botanical substances are incorporated. In Rasa Shastra, the classical work Rasa Tarangini by Acharya Sadananda Sharma (20th century) describes various types of Mallahara Kalpana, primarily using Siktha Taila as the base. A traditional formulation known as Gandhakadya Mallahar is used for the topical treatment of various skin conditions, such as Pama (dermatitis). This herbal-mineral combination is made of purified ingredients including Tankan, Girisindur, Shudha Gandhaka, Siktha Taila, and Karpura. Gandhakadya Mallahar is an affordable, safe, and highly effective remedy for dermatological conditions. Keywords: Mallahara Kalpana, Gandhaka, Gandhakadya Mallahara.
