Abstract

THE EFFICACY OF HYDROGEL AND HERBAL INGREDIENTS IN TREATING UNDER EYE DARK CIRCLES: A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW

ABSTRACT

Hydrogels are 3D crosslinke d networks of hydrophilic polymers thatcan retain large amounts of water and can quickly absorb it, henceshowing the hydration property in the cosmetics field. Herbal hydrogeleye patch can be used as a beautifying product which has the propertyto reduc e inflammation, pigmentation puffiness and also givesmoisturizing effect under the eyes. This review delves into theapplication of hydrogels, particularly those infused with herbalextracts, for the treatment of under eye dark circles, a commoncosmetic concern. The article provides a comprehensive overview ofthe ethiology of under eye dark circles, discussing various causativefactors including genetics, pigmentation, inflammation, and lifestyleinfluences such as stress and sleep deprivation. It explor es thecharacteristics, classifications, and preparation methods of hydrogels,highlighting their unique ability to absorb and retain significantamounts of water, making them ideal for cosmetic applications. Adetailed review of various herbs and their co nstituents is presented,focusing on their antioxidant, anti inflammatory, and depigmenting properties relevant to thetreatment of under eye dark circles. The review further discusses the design, application, andevaluation of hydrogel under eye patches, an emerging product in the cosmetic industry alongwith various evaluation methods. This review emphasizes the potential of herbal infusedhydrogels as a promising, effective, and innovative approach to addressing under eye dark circles, offering a compre hensive insight into their formulation, therapeutic application, andfuture directions.
