THERAPEUTIC DEEP EUTECTIC SOLVENT BASED EMULGEL: A PROMISING TOOL FOR TOPICAL DRUG DELIVERY
*Anagha George, Dr. Geetha V. S. and Raeesa K.U.
ABSTRACT The topical drug delivery system delivers medicine to the body through the skin, eyes, vagina, and rectal channels. The capacity of topical pharmaceutical administration to avoid first-pass metabolism is its main advantage. Emulgel is a thermodynamically stable formulation with low interfacial tension. A formulation with a number of beneficial properties, including increased permeability, robust thermodynamic stability, and a prolonged release pattern, is created by combining a surfactant and a co-surfactant. Deep eutectic solvents (DES) are multicomponent liquids made up of an acceptor and a donor that form hydrogen bonds. This combination results in strong non-covalent intermolecular networking, which considerably reduces the system's melting point. The DES phenomenon has been exploited by pharmaceutical applications to improve the physicochemical propertiesof drugs. Keywords: Hydrophobic medication, Emulgel, Skin penetration, Topical drug delivery device, Therapeutic deep eutectic solvents (THEDES) and Deep eutectic solvents.
