Dr. Anita D. Bombarde*, Dr. Preeti K. Jadhav, Dr. Pournima Gadge and Dr. Viresh A. Birajdar

ABSTRACT

Background: Infertility due to low Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) is a growing concern in reproductive health. Ayurveda offers holistic treatments using medicinal herbs and formulations that may help in improving fertility outcomes. This case report highlights the treatment regimen which includes Shodhana (Yogbastikrama) and Shamana [Sharpunkha (Tephrosia purpurea) and Phalaghrita] in managing infertility associated with low AMH levels. Methods: A 31-year-old married female patient with a history of infertility and low AMH (1.39 ng/mL) was selected for Ayurvedic intervention. The patient was prescribed a treatment regimen consisting of 3 cycle of Yogbasti kram along with shaman chikitsa with Tephrosia purpurea (a herb known for its fertility-enhancing properties) and Phalaghrita (an Ayurvedic ghee formulation aimed at promoting reproductive health). Treatment was administered over a period of 5 months. Results: After 5 months of treatment, the patient showed a significant improvement in AMH levels, rising from 1.39 to ng/mL to 1.69 ng/mL. Additionally, the patient reported improvements in menstrual regularity, ovulation, and overall reproductive health. A subsequent ultrasound confirmed an increase in follicular development, and the patient achieved pregnancy after the course of treatment. Conclusion: This case report demonstrates the potential of ayurvedic regimen consisting of shodhana and shaman therapy in managing infertility associated with low AMH. The improvement in AMH levels and subsequent pregnancy suggest that Ayurvedic treatments can offer a viable complementary approach to conventional infertility therapies. Further studies with larger sample sizes are warranted to confirm these findings.
