Abstract

REVIEW OF LODHRA (SYMPLOCOS RACEMOSA): SPECIAL REFERENCE TO NIGHANTU

ABSTRACT

Background: In Ayurveda, Lodhra is a highly suspected medication with styptic and wound-healing qualities. Materials and Methods: Every Ayurvedic Nighantus that was available was consulted in order to gather information about Lodhra. Synonyms, characteristics, and actions of the medications are described. For this evaluation, the National Institute of Indian Medical Heritage (NIIMH), Hyderabad, developed the e-Nighantu. Results: The different synonyms of Lodhra like Lodhra, Tirita, Tilvaka, Laksha prasadan, Rodhra, Pattikahvaya, Shabar,Marjana, Ghantvaka, Patti, Tilaka, Tiritak, Galav.etc. Properties like Kashay Rasa, Laghu, Guna, Shita Veerya, Kapha-Pittadoshahara Karma and actions like Rechana, Chakshushya, Grahi etc were described in different Nighantu. Discussion: the compilation of different Lodhra information from 24 Nighantus and a comparison of its variants based on their actions, qualities, and synonyms. For the first time, a critical investigation of the medication Lodhra from several Ayurvedic Nighantu has been conducted. Conclusion: According to the current analysis, medicinal plants can be identified and validated using the many synonyms, properties, and activities that have been recorded in Ayurvedic Nighantu over time. Additionally, well-established indications will serve as the foundation for a retrospective investigation of the particular medicine.
