ABSTRACT

Integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in pharmaceutical, clinical, and medical sciences is progressively transforming the healthcareindustry. The expansion of computation capacity and the availability oflarge data sets of ‘big data’ has leveraged AI in health care beyond theconfines of what might be considered intelligent computing. There arenew developments in the application of AI techniques i n the field ofmedicine especially in machine learning. These AI enabled solutionsare now improving the accuracy and efficiency of diagnosis andtreatment across numerous specialties in combination with the rapiddevelopments in computer processing. The a rticles that were collectedfrom five databases were screened and a comprehensive reviewconducted based on use of keywords such as AI in medicine. There issubstantial evidence that effectiveness of AI in promoting radicalchanges to healthcare practice i s feasible. As more experts continue toconduct research using AI in health care various specialists havepredicted that AI will possibly replace human participation in healthcare. The present thorough literature gives readers an overview of the progresses made by AI in the field of medicine many of which are summarized in the article. These domains are involved in patient evaluation, identification and handling of bothcancerous and non cancerous diseases, development of new drugs and processes forregul ating clinical trials.

Keywords: Artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare, AI Medical applications, AI Clinical applications, Electronic health records.
