A CONCEPTUAL REVIEW ON GARBHA NIRODHAKA UPAYA (CONTRACEPTION)

ABSTRACT The uncontrolled escalation of the world population has become the biggest and emerging issue in developing countries like India, and its consequences are under-nutrition, poverty and environmental degradation. The recent projection in 2022 shows that the world population may exceed 8.5 billion before 2030 when India becomes the highest population-dense country by reaching 1.43 billion people. Women seeking safe and efficient birth control methods in today's busy world often prefer synthetic contraceptives. Some of these pills may have side effects such as hormonal imbalances. Hence, there is a growing interest in natural products for reproductive health, which creates prospects for new contraceptive technologies. Globally, the search for safer natural contraceptive drugs or agents is of new scientific interest. Ayurvedic classical texts, research articles offer knowledge and information about the reproductive function andtherapeutics of plant, mineral or animal origin that are known to have property like Garbhanirodhakara, Garbhapatakara, Garbhasravakara, Garbhashaya Sankochakara, Avrishya is discussed. Numerous drugs and formulations have been studied for their phytoconstituents and range of pharmacological actions. Ayurveda provides a natural and gentle approach to birth control. We shall thus consider Ayurvedic options against synthetic ones, emphasizing why choosing an Ayurvedic contraception is to be recommended for hormonal harmony. Therefore, this research paper approaches to understand contraception in Ayurveda to better understand Garbha Nirodhaka Upaya.
