“A COMPARATIVE CLINICAL STUDY OF NALPAMARADI MURIVENNA PICHU AND MURIVENNA PICHU FOLLOWED BY SWASTIKA BANDHANA IN THE MANAGEMENT OF ANKLE SPRAIN”
Sushruth* and Elizabeth P. John
ABSTRACT Ankle sprains are common musculoskeletal injuries often resulting in pain, swelling, and functional impairment. This study compares the efficacy of two Ayurvedic treatments: Nalpamaradi Murivenna Pichu and Murivenna Pichu, both followed by Swastika Bandhana. Sixty patients were randomly divided into two groups (n=30 each). Group A received Nalpamaradi Murivenna, while Group B received Murivenna. Outcomes were assessed on days 0, 3, 5, and 10 using parameters such as pain (VAS), swelling reduction, range of motion (ROM), and weight-bearing ability. Both treatments were effective (p<0.05), with Nalpamaradi Murivenna showing superior outcomes in swelling reduction (92.78%) and ROM improvement (97.88%), while Murivenna excelled in pain management (91.61%). These findings suggest that treatment selection can be tailored to specific symptom predominance. Keywords: Ankle sprain, Nalpamaradi Murivenna, Murivenna, Swastika Bandhana, Gulpha Marma.
