AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF BHADRAVAHA GHRITA IN CISPLATIN INDUCED NEPHROTOXICITY
Dr. Sahana Ranjanagi* and Dr. Usha M.
ABSTRACT Background: Nephrotoxicity occurs when kidney- specific detoxification and excretion do not work properly due to the damage or destruction of kidney function by exogenous or endogenous toxicants. Exposure to drugs often results in toxicity in kidney which represents the major control system maintaining homeostasis of body and thus is especially susceptible to xenobiotics. Approximately 20% of nephrotoxocity is induced by drugs, but medication of the elderly increases the incidence of nephrotoxicity up to 66% as the average life span increases. Chemotherapy or anticancer medicine has been of limited use due to nephrotoxicity.[1] Methodology: Preparation of Bhadravaha Ghrita[2] by method of preparation as mentioned specifically. BG was prepared by Murchita Ghrita[3] - 1 part, kalka- ¼ part, kashaya-4 part by general snehapaka method. All the animals were divided into four groups of six animals each. After recording the initial body weights, the animals were treated as follows. Cisplatin, Bhadravaha ghrita (BG). Discussion and Conclusion: Bhadrvaha ghrita yielded significant results in serum creatinine, serum urea, serum uric acid. It is a herbo-mineral preparation contains tikta rasa, ushna, tikshna, mutrala, rasayana properties. It is indicated in Mutraghata, Ashmari, Prameha. Keywords: were divided into four groups of six animals each. After recording the initial body weights, the animals were treated as follows. Cisplatin, Bhadravaha ghrita (BG).
