Dr. Yogita Jain* and Dr. Sumant Moreshwar Pande
ABSTRACT The Ayurvedic word Hrudya can be correlated with Heart in modern science on the basis of its vital functions. Five types of Hrudyaroga have been described in Ayurveda in Madhav Nidana and Hansraj Nidana.[1] out of which the description of Vatika Hrudyaroga is clearly in accordance with that of Ischemic Heart Disease, combined with symptomatology of Vatika Sotha and Swasa give a vague picture of congestive Heart Failure. Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of death globally. An estimated 17.9 million people died from CVDs in 2019, representing 32% of all global deaths. Of these deaths, 85% were due to heart attack and stroke. Over three quarters of CVD deaths take place in low and middle income countries. The most important behavioral risk factors of heart disease and stroke are unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, tobacco use and harmful use of alcohol. Some of the peculiar differences has been mentioned in clinical features and symptomatology in the Madhav Nidana and the Hansaraj Nidana.[2] The study carried out to understand the critical review between the two classical text andparallel correlation with the modern disease with special reference with heart diseases.
