EFFICACY OF ISOTONIC VS HYPERTONIC SALINE NASAL DROPS FOR CLEARING UNINFLAMED MUCUS BLOCKED NOSE IN INFANTS

ABSTRACT Background: This article provides, for the first time, a comprehensive view on everyday practice and evidence-based advice on the regular use of saline nasal drops to clear the simple mucus blocked nose of infants. Method: Infant babies were divided into 2 groups. One group got nose cleared by isotonic saline & another group by hypertonic saline. Results: Fourty two out of 50 babies got well cleared nose in isotonic group compared to only 27 out of 50 in hypertonic group. Conclusion: Isotonic saline is optimum for clearing simple mucus blocked nose of infants; hypertonic should only be used when there is congestion because of infections or allergies.
