ALLAMANDA CATHARTICA: THE YELLOW BLOOM; AN OVERVIEW OF PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTIVITIES

ABSTRACT
Allamanda cathartica is an evergreen tropical climber and is one of the most studied species on the Allamanda genus. These are familiar as ornamental plants cultivated for their large, yellow and pink colorful flowers and make attractive to the enviormental beautification. Allamanda cathartica is used in ayurvedic and unani systems for the treatment of various illness due to its bioactive metabolites. It has shown the activities like antidiabetic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and in other traditional uses like jaundice, cough, purgative etc. this plant possess phytochemical constituents like alkaloids, flavonoids, terpenoids, phenolic compounds, and saponins. An overview of the traditional uses, phytochemical and pharmacological activities is provided in this article.
