Dr. Monika Sharma* and Dr. Pankaj Sharma

ABSTRACT

The COVlD-19 pandemic has created a global health crisis creating an unprecedented public health emergency. The patient with co- morbidities like Diabetes Mellitus (Madhumeha) are highly at risk because of reduced immunity and high blood sugar cause more complications. Ayurveda interventions become even more relevant by the fact that there is an elaborate description of causation and management of epidemic (Janapadodhwamsa). Nature of both diseases i.e. COVID-19 and Madhumeha is considered to be serious as Madhumeha is enlisted in “Mahagada” which means difficult to treat. In both cases Oja (Immunity) is compromised in patients. In Ayurvedic classics great emphasis has been laid over promotions of Agni and Ojas. In Madhumeha where Slesma and Kleda are the main causative factors. COVID-19 symptoms closely resembles with that of Vata kaphaja jwara. Ayurveda has unique approach in both diseases including their treatment and management. A study regarding the role of Ayurveda in managing diabetic patients in COVID-19 will be mentioned in this article.

Keywords: Diabetes Mellitus, Madhumeha, Janapadodhwamsa, Oja, Slesma, Kleda.
