ABSTRACT

Obesity is a medical condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to the extent that it can lead to adverse effects on health. It is measured by BMI. People having BMI of more than 30 considered as obese. In Unani literature it is termed as Siman Mufriṭ. It is a phlegmatic disease. There are so many factors responsible for the development of obesity like taking fatty and oily substances and unhealthy diet, lack of physical exertion etc. genetic, behavioral, and environmental factors also play a role in its pathogenesis. Old age people are more susceptible to the development of obesity because BMR becomes slow in old age. But now a days it is seen that the prevalence of overweight and obesity among children and adolescents aged 5-19 has risen. This is because of change in life style, having various bad habits like excess of junk food and lack of interest in outdoor games, rise of stress etc. obesity increases the risk of various health problems, including diabetes, heart disease, and certain cancers, arthritis, breathing problems, etc. it is also linked to more deaths worldwide than underweight. Childhood obesity is a known precursor to obesity and other non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in adulthood. Obesity occurs due to disturbances in Asbāb sitta Ḍarūriyya (essential factors). By altering these factors in a particular manner, obesity can be managed. Here, in this paper the obesity and its Uṣūl-e-‘Ilāj by the intervention of Asbāb sitta Ḍarūriyya has been discussed in a logical way.

Keywords: Obesity, Siman Mufri?, Asb?b sitta ?ar?riyya, BMI.
