PHYTO-PHARMACOGNOSTICAL EVALUATION OF THE LEAVES AND FRUITS OF GARCINIA GUMMI-GUTTA (L) ROBS

ABSTRACT

Garcinia gummi-gutta (L) belonging to the family Guttiferae is a large and extensively growing tree across the Indian continent. It is commonly known as Malabar Tamarind and claimed to possess medicinal properties. The aim of the present study is to investigate the Pharmacognostical and Phytochemical characters of this medicinal plant Garcinia gummi-gutta (L) Robs. The Pharmacognostic studies were carried out in terms of Macroscopical, Microscopical characters and physicochemical evaluation was also performed as a part of standardization of this medicinal plant for further reference. Various standard methods were adapted to carry out the investigation.
