ABSTRACT

Introduction:- Chronic Kidney Disease(CKD) is a irreversible deterioration in renal function which classically develops over a period of years. The conventional approach of management includes dialysis and renal transplantation, which are not easily affordable. Various recipes of Ayurveda are reported to be effective for chronic kidney disease and provide with a better drug formula. Materials and methods:- A total of 30 patients suffering from CKD (Vrikka Vikara) from 6 months to 1 year were divided into three groups (n=10) and treated as follows; Group A- Veerataradi Kasaya 20 ml twice daily for 30 days; Group B- Gokshuradi Guggulu 1 gm thrice daily for 30 days and in Group C- both Veerataradi Kasaya and Gokshuradi Guggulu were taken. The patient’s age, serum creatinine, urea, blood sugar, blood pressure and pedal edema were taken into consideration. Observation and results:- There was 20% of improvement seen in signs and symptoms and 3.53% of increase in the level of GFR (<0.10), 6.75% of increase in the level of Blood urea (<0.01) and 12.12% increase in the level of S.Creatinine (<0.01) was seen in patients of Group-A, 25% of improvement in signs and symptoms and 4.38% of increase in the level of GFR (<0.10), 12.2% of increase in the level of Blood urea (<0.05) and 11.66% increase in the level of S.Creatinine (<0.05) was seen in patients of Group-B. The improvement of 45% in signs and symptoms and 21% of increase in the level of GFR (<0.001)34.75% of increase in the level of Blood urea (<0.001) and 42.53% increase in the level of S.Creatinine (<0.001) was seen in patients of Group-C. Conclusion:-The study revealed that the conditions of CKD with both medication Veerataradi kasaya and Gokshuradi Guggulu (Group-C) showed more efficacy than other two independent trials Group-A and Group-B. No side effects inferred during study period.
