EFFECT OF VIRECHANA KARMA IN THE MANAGEMENT OF EKAKUSTA (PSORIASIS)-A CASE STUDY

ABSTRACT
Ekakusta is a skin disease which is compared to psoriasis. Psoriasis is a chronic disease that has psychological and social impact on patient life. However the treatment options in contemporary system of medicine are not much satisfactory. Here we describe a patient of Ekakusta(Psoriasis) who presented with Aswedanam(anhydrosis), Mahavastu(extent of lesion), Matsyashakalopammam(scaling).This was resolved on various Ayurvedic treatment modalities like Shodhana and Shamana.Where as in Shodhana, Virechana procedure was carried out, in Shamana, VatakaphaShamaka, Raktaprasadana, Kustagna and Kandugna drugs were used. The therapies were found to be significantly effective and clinically safe as no adverse drug reactions were reported during treatment period.
