Dr. Nilam Dinkar Auradkar*, Dr. Manjusha Sunil More and Dr. Renu Bhoskar

ABSTRACT

Fifty percent of adults are suffering from dandruff.[1] In modern view, Dandruff is an irritative disease of the scalp which includes shedding of dead tissue with itching over the scalp is the cardinal symptom. For pacifying these lakshanas and doshas, there are two main procedure i.e. Shiroabhyanga and Shirolepa. In Vaghbhatta Uttartantra, Shirolepa and Shiroabhyanga are described for Darunaka vyadhi.[2] Present study is focused on comparative study of “Priyaladi Siddha Taila Shiroabhyanga” and “Priyaladi Churna Lepa” in the treatment of Darunaka, which are mentioned in Ashtanga Hridaya.[3] As Darunaka is due to Vata Kapha,[4] its Chikitsa should be done with Snigdha, Ushna, Laghu Guna and with Katu and Tikta Rasa. Both Priyaladi Shiroabhyanga and Priyaladi Churna Lepa are Ushna, Snigdha, Laghu; therefore, both treatments shown significant results in Darunaka Vyadhi. The criteria Kandu, Keshabhoomi Rukashata and Twaka Sphutana was improved moderately and Keshachyuti was improved mildly in this pilot study.
