Abstract

CLINICAL STUDY ON SYRUP URICITRAL IN THE MANAGEMENT OF URINARY TRACT INFECTION (~MUTRAKRICCHRA) OF CHILDREN

Chaturvedi Abhishek Kumar*, Mishra O. P. and Singh B. M.

ABSTRACT

Childhood urinary tract infection is a common global problem in infants and children.Globally its incidence has been estimated as 24- 28%. In developed countries, it is diagnosed in 1% of boys and 3-8% of girls, while in developing countries; it has been estimated higher and ranged from 20-35% in infants & children. Many chemical drugs have been introduced for the treatment of urinary tract infection, but the problem of drug resistance, drug dependence and toxic manifestations of long term use of these drugs are common. Keeping in view of this fact, a commonly used patent poly-herbo-mineral formulation - “Uricitral”, available in form of syrup, was evaluated to treat childhood Mutrakricchra (~UTI). The ingredients of “Uricitral” are Yashtimadhu (Glycyrrhiza glabra), Gokshura (Tribulus terrestris), Punarnava (Boerrhavia diffusa), Pashanabheda (Bergenia ligulata), Safed musali (Asparagus adscendens) and Shweta Parpati. 50 patients of both sex, having age 6 months to 16 years, suffering from symptoms of UTI (~Mutrakricchra) were randomly divided in two groups-I & II, receiving Uricitral and Antibiotics. A complete history, examinations and investigations were carried out in each case, and then recorded on a prescribed Performa at the time of registration and on subsequent follow ups, carried out during and after the fourteen days of treatment. Analysis of gathered data suggest a significant reduction in clinical symptoms of Mutrakricchra (~UTI) caused by Escherichia coli, Klebsiella and Enterococcus in both groups, which proves the almost equal efficacy of trial drugs in the management of UTI (~Mutrakricchra).
