ABSTRACT

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disease that involves the skin and articulations. It is universally distributed and affects from 1 to 3% of the population. We here intended to study the clinical and pharmacological study on psoriasis management in a tertiary care hospital. This prospective study was done in department of Dermatology, Rajah Muthiah Medical College Hospital and the study was carried out 5 months of period. A total of 50 patients enrolled in our study. Data was available only for 30 patients; remaining 20 patients could not be followed up, male 19 and female 11 patients. Most of them people affected in the age group of 36-50 years (8 patients). Duration of psoriasis is less than 4-5 months; most frequently exposed area was reported as lower limb (10 patients). In our study most common triggering factor in trauma (24 patients) and emollient, salicylic acid in clobetasone and cyclosporine are most commonly used drugs for psoriasis. 28 patients are affected by plaque type of psoriasis. The severity of the disease was assessed by baseline psoriasis area severity index (PASI) score. Systemic therapy were considered only for severe cases of psoriasis with baseline PASI score >20. The patients were monitored every 2 weeks for 3 months. Topical route are given in short term treatment in acute condition. Parenteral route of administration is maximum therapeutic effect of drug and intravenous route of drugs are used for long term treatment in chronic condition of Psoriasis.
