R. S. Kumaravel* and S. F. Maleeka Begum
ABSTRACT
Intravascular catheters required for the care of many hospitalized patients can give rise to bloodstream infection, a complication of care that has occurred most frequently in intensive care unit (ICU) settings.
The advances in medical technology have resulted in an increase in the use of devices and implants to improve the quality of life and replace diseased organs. One of the frequent and serious complications of the use of these devices has been the development of implant associated infections (Donlan 2001).
