ABSTRACT The article reviews the various methods of sterilization by focusing on the guidelines for an effective and efficient orthodontic practice. Sterilization is a process by which an article, surface or medium is freed of all micro-organisms either in vegetative or spore state. Control of infection that spreads through various instruments and armamentarium used in the field of dentistry is of utmost importance as a preventive measure for cross infection.
