ABSTRACT
The liver disorders are the dangerous problems of the world. The increase in the levels of serum SGOT, SGPT and ALP observed in the positive control group is an indication of the extensive hepatotoxicity induced by CCl4. The aim of this study was to test the efficacy of ethyl acetate as well as ethanolic extract of Gardenia Resinifera Roth. in CCl4 induced hepatotoxicity. Administering ethanolic extract of Gardenia Resinifera Roth. (400 mg/kg, p.o.) significantly (p<0.001) reduced the levels of serum SGOT, SGPT, ALP and Bilirubin (Total & Direct) in CCl4 induced hepatotoxicity as compared to the animals treated with CCl4 treated group alone. This extract also improve the histology of liver. From the present investigations, it can be concluded that the ethanolic extract of leaves of Gardenia Resinifera Roth.
possessing hepatoprotective effect which may be due to antioxidant potential of flavonoids that present in it.
