FORMULATION DEVELOPMENT AND EVALUATION OF NON-IONIC SURFACTANT BASED VESICLES (NIOSOMES) ENCAPSULATED TINIDAZOLE

ABSTRACT

Niosomes are uni-lamellar or multilamellar vesicular carriers that are formed by self-assembly of non-ionic surfactant along with additives like cholesterol; upon hydration with aqueous media resulting in lamellar structures that encapsulates both lipophilic and hydrophilic drugs. In the present research work Tinidazole niosomes were prepared by using non-ionic surfactant span 60 and cholesterol in varying concentration by thin film hydration method. The prepared Tinidazole niosomes were evaluated for various parameters like visual appearance, turbidity, flocculation, sedimentation and entrapment efficiency. The formulation with highest entrapment efficiency and which passes all the above-mentioned evaluation parameters were further evaluated for scanning electron microscope, size distribution, poly-dispersity index, zeta potential, in-vitro diffusion and stability study.
