Abstract

PHARMACOGNOSTICAL AND PHARMACEUTICAL EVALUATION OF SHAYYAMUTRAHARA YOGA TABLET

ABSTRACT

Enuresis described as involuntary urination1. Nocturnal enuresis (NE) also referred to as “bedwetting” or “sleepwetting” is described as the involuntary passing of urine during sleep after the age at which bladder control would normally be anticipated. This problem occupies considerable time in the general pediatric or family practice and is often accompanied by major psychosocial issues. It affects small to middle age group of children mainly. It is considered as multifactorial behavioral disorder2. In Ayurvedic classics, direct reference about Shayyamutra is not available in Bruhtrayee. The brief description regarding Shayyamutra is found in Sharangadhara3 and Vangasena Samhita4. This disease mainly involved Vata (Apan Vayu), Pitta (Pachaka), Kapha (Tarpaka), along with Manasika Dosha Raja and Tama. There are many treatment option are now available for disease but traditionally very less information was available for the same. Shayyamutrahara Yoga is compound of Ayurvedic formulation hence which containing Brahmi and Tagara. These drugs are indicated in the management of various neurological and psychological disorders. The present study was carried out to standardize the finished product Shayyamutrahara Yoga tablet to confirm its identity, purity and quality. The presence of tenin contain of Tagara, simple and compound starch grains of Tagara, stone cell of Tagara, features of trichoma of Brahmi, parenchyma of Bramhi and fibers of Bramhi etc were the characteristic features of observed in microscopy of drug. Physico chemical analysis shows loss on drying is 4.86% w/w, water soluble extract is 28.9% w/w, methanol soluble extract is 13.2%w/w, ash value is 6.58% w/w and PH is 6.5. High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) at 254 nm and 366 nm resulted into 3 spots respectively.
