A REVIEW ON DIFFERENT PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTIVITIES OF GOMPHRENA GLOBOSA L

ABSTRACT
Gomphrena globosa is one of the traditional medicinal plant widely distributed in North America, Bangladesh and India. Each part of the plant has some important medicinal value and it is considered as a source for medicines against various diseases. G.globosa has been recognised in different traditional systems of medicines for the treatment of different ailments. It is used in folk medicine in the treatment of high blood pressure and used for oliguria, heat and empacho. It is a popular edible plant and used as food colourant. The present review is to focus on the potential phytochemicals and pharmacological activities of plant G.globosa. phytochemicals like
betacyanins have been reported for significant antioxidant activity and the different phytochemicals recognised are responsible for various activities such as anticancer, analgesic, anti-inflammatory and cytotoxic. Further work is recommended to isolate and characterise the bioactive compounds which are responsible for this activities in the plant.
