ABSTRACT

Objectives: In present investigation inhibitory effect of Becopa monnieri on primary B16F10 tumor cells growth in C57BL/6J mice was studied. Material And Method: The whole plant methanolic extract of Becopa monniera was used to evaluate tumor growth inhibitory activity. Melanoma cancer was induced by B16F10 tumor cells propagated subcutaneous (SC) injection of 106 cells on the dorsal skin of C57BL/6J mice. In each experiment four groups were treated as Control (Group I), Cyclophosphamide alone (Group II), Becopa monniera ext. (Group III), and Cyclophosphamide and Becopa monniera ext. (Group IV). Every alternate day’s tumor diameter was measured for 21 days, calculating the tumor volume, and monitored palpable tumor growth. Result: Results of experimental groups were statistically analyzed and found significant at p< 0.05 when compared with positive control group[F (3, 12) =5.635]. It was observed that control Group-I animals shows 100% tumor growth, Group-II and Group-III showed significant tumor growth inhibition (TGI) as compare to control with 46.74% and 50.71% TGI, respectively. Group-IV animals showed no significant (TGI 27.27%) inhibition as compare to control. Conclusion: Becopa monniera combined with cyclophosphamide showed significant inhibitory effect on melanoma tumor, but showed no significant effect alone. Anticancer effect of Bacopa extract is possibly due to inhibition of DNA replication in cancer cell line. Normal cell protection in cancer therapy may exhibits by Becopa monnieri extract. Present study demonstrates the chemopreventive potential of Becopa monnieri extract on Melanoma Tumor Model.
