ABSTRACT

Two simple, accurate, rapid and precise UV Spectrophotometric methods have been developed for simultaneous estimation of Omeprazole and Aspirin in combined tablet formulation. Omeprazole and Aspirin at their respective λmax 302 nm and 276 nm shows linearity in a concentration range of 20-100 μg/ml and 40-200 μg/ml respectively. The methods employed were (A) Zero order and (B) Area under curve (AUC). Method – A involves measurement of absorbance at 302 and 276nm (λmax of Omeprazole and Aspirin) using Ethanol as solvent system. The solutions of Omeprazole and Aspirin obeyed Beer’s law in concentration range of 20-100 μg/ml and40-200 μg/ml with regression coefficient 0.9994 and 0.9993 respectively. Method – B involves measurement of area at two wavelength range 292.0 – 312.0 nm and 266.0 – 286.0 nm. In both methods linearity for detector response for Omeprazole and Aspirin were found over the concentration range of 20-100μg/ml and 40-200 μg/ml respectively. Both the methods were found to be rapid, specific, precise and accurate can be successfully applied for routine analysis of Omeprazole and Aspirin in bulk and combined dosage form without any interference by the excipients. The method was validated according to ICH guidelines.

Keywords: Omeprazole, Aspirin, Zero-order method, Area under curve method.
