Abstract

SYNTHESIS OF SOME NEW COORDINATION COMPOUNDS OF TIN(II) WITH SCHIFF BASES OF SULFA DRUGS USING GREEN SOLVENT

Yogesh Kumar Kalla, S. Varshney and A. K. Varshney*

ABSTRACT

The present paper reports the synthesis and characterization of new coordination compound of tin(II) with schiff bases of sulfa drugs using green solvent. The ligand used were synthesized by the condensation of anisaldehyde with sulphaguanidine, sulphamerazine, sulphapyridine and sulphanilamide in ethanol (1:1). The new coordination compounds of Sn(II) were synthesized in 1:2 metal-ligand ratio using dry methyltetrahydrofuran(MeTHF) as a reaction medium. The bonding pattern and structure of sulfa drug ligands and their new coordination compound were characterized on the basis of elemental analysis, molecular weight determination, melting point determination and IR spectral studies. The comparative antibacterial (gram +ve & gram –ve) and antifungal studies of ligands their corresponding tin(II) coordination compound have also been carried out. The coordination compounds were shown to possess more antibacterial and antifungal activities than the free ligands.

Keywords: Tin(II) coordination compound, Sulfa drugs, Antibacterial and Antifungal activities, Spectral studies, Green solvent.
