ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY OF PHYCOCYANIN FROM SPIRULINA PLANTESIS EXTRACT BY DPPH METHOD

ABSTRACT
Objective. Phycocyanin is a content in Spirulina that has antioxidant activity in preventing the formation of free radical compounds as the initiation of the emergence of degenerative diseases. Aim. This study aims to determine the antioxidant activity of phycocyanin from Spirulina plantesis extract with Spirulina fusiformis using DPPH method (2,2-diphenyl-1- picrilhidrazil). Methods. The research method includes material collection, sample determination, extraction process, purification and testing of antioxidant activity by DPPH method. Results. The results showed that the antioxidant activity of Spirulina plantesis with a value of 387.36 ppm. Conclusion. The greater the concentration of phycocyanin in the test sample, the better
the inhibition percentage.
