SYNTHESIS AND INVITRO ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY OF SCHIFF AND MANNICH BASES OF INDOLINE-2,3 DIONE DERIVATIVES

ABSTRACT
In the present study, a series of Schiff and Mannich bases of Isatin derivatives were synthesized by condensation of Imesatin with different aromatic aldehydes. The Imesatin were synthesized by Isatin with p-phenylene diamine. The Mannich base was synthesized by reacting Schiff base with p-formaldehyde and secondary amine (piperazine). All the synthesized compounds have been confirmed by IR, NMR, and MASS spectroscopy analysis. These compounds were screened for antibacterial (Bacillus. subtilis, Klebsiella pneumoniae) activities by disc diffusion method using Ofloxacin (10μg/ml) as standard. Among the tested compounds SM-4 exhibited better
antibacterial activity.
