PREPARATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF AZATHIOPRINE PRONIOSOME FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS

ABSTRACT
Objective: The objective of present investigation was to prepare & Characterize Azathioprine proniosome gel for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis mild to moderate pain. Methods: Proniosome gel were formulated by slurry method with the help of rotary evaporator using Mannitol Lecithin, 160mg Span 60, 40mg Cholesterol, Chloroform, Isopropyl alcohol. Results: All the preformulation parameters of drug were evaluated such as physical characterization, melting point, pH, identification by UV spectroscopy and FTIR analytical method, preparation of calibration curves, solubility. Then proniosome were subjected to scanning electron microscopy, drug entrapment efficiency (EE), particle size determination. It has been
observed that, the high lipid concentration containing formulation have higher entrapment as. Finally the formulation of proniosome based topical gel was subjected to further study such as physical appearance, pH, viscosity determined using a Brookfield and Spreadability. Conclusion: It was concluded that the Azathioprine proniosome gel formulation containing carbopol was suitable for topical application and shows good penetration power.
