Abstract

AN OBSERVATIONAL STUDY ON CLINICAL PHARMACIST ASSESSMENT IN COMPLICATIONS OF PATIENTS UNDERGOING HEMODIALYSIS

ABSTRACT

Background: Poor quality of life is prevalent among hemodialysis (HD) patient. Patients suffers more complications during hemodialysis. Objective: This observational study to known about the complications of hemodialysis patients. Patients and methods: We selected 49 hemodialysis patients, out of which 32 where male and 17 where females. All patients where undergoing hemodialysis for more than one year. Medication education program, Renal health education program, telephonic follow up of patients. Result: The 49 patients with diagnosis of ESRF undergoing hemodialysis, 33 were male and 16 were female. The age was categorized into 3 zone (30yrs, 30-59yrs, 60yrs). As the marital status about 48 were married and 1 was single. 23 patients were occupationally active and 26 were not attending any job due to various reasons. 13 patients were vegetarian and rest of 36 had mixed diet. 1 patient was taking alcohol, 6 were smokers. 3 patients had social habit of consuming both and 39 patients had neither alcoholic nor smoking nature.26 patients experienced sleeping complaints and 23 had sound sleep. 4 patients were taking less than or equal to 3 drugs daily for their illness. 36 patients were taking 4 to 12 drugs and 9 patients were taking more than 12 drugs for various illnesses including kidney disease.
