Abstract

MUPIROCIN AMALGAMATED INORGANIC NANOPARTICLES FOR AUGMENTING DRUG DELIVERY IN RESISTANT MICROBIAL STRAINS

ABSTRACT

Aim: The aim of the present work is to develop and evaluate mupirocin amalgamated inorganic nanoparticle gel for drug delivery in resistant microbial strains. Materials and Methods: Mupirocin (Belcom, India), Silver nitrate (Thermo Fisher, India), Tri sodium citrate (Nice chemicals, India). Silver nanoparticles were prepared by chemical reduction method by using Silver nitrate and Tri sodium citrate. AgNPs were incorporated into carbopol gel base which was produced by hot method. Results and discussion: prepared nanoparticles have % E.E. was found to be 67.3%, smooth surface was observed under (TEM), Zeta potential (- 15.1 mV), Particle size of avg. dia. 411.0 nm, XRD shows crystalline nature of particles, viscosity of gel was 73,200 cP, spreadability: 13.29 g.cm2/sec, % yield : 96.18%, In vitro release study show 97.4% release of drug, stability is good with effective antibacterial activity. Conclusion: mupirocin amalgamated AgNPs were prepared and show good antibacterial activity against S. aureus.
