Abstract

CLINICAL STUDY ON TILATAILADI NASYA AND AMRUTADI GUGGULU IN THE MANAGEMENT OF DIABETIC RETINOPATHY

ABSTRACT

Among 76 eyes diseases described in Ayurveda, 12 are included in Dristigata roga. Disturbances in vision are the cardinal features of Dristigata Roga. Diabetes mellitus has in recent times, gained importance as one of the most common, non communicable disease, which contribute to death and disability worldwide. Diabetes affects almost all aspects of intermediary metabolism and is also associated with accelerated ageing of the cardiovascular system. Diabetic Retinopathy is one of the major complications of diabetes mellitus. It is a chronic progressive, potentially sight-threatening disease of the retinal microvasculature associated with prolonged hyperglycemia. Thus in present study an attempt has been made to prevent and check the progression of different stages of non proliferative stages of diabetic retinopathy (NPDR) through Nasya procedure and an oral medication Amrutadi Guggulu. Fifteen patients attended to the O.P.D. and I.P.D. of Shalakya department of National Institute of Ayurveda, Jaipur were screened out for clinical signs and symptoms of Diabetic Retinopathy with duration of diabetes for 5 or more years and were selected as per the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The most important thing of the study is to improve the visual acuity, thus present study obtained that task with very significant statistical results.
